The teacher me has to have a clean, at least unrcettelud, space to work in. If my space is a mess, I can’t get into that mode. That person just refuses to come out. The teacher who does the planning and organizing has to have quiet. That’s why it usually happens after everyone is asleep. The maid in me definitely needs to be in the mood to clean and does like to have music or a good audiobook on to make the time pass more pleasantly. I think it’s a good thing to identify what these other selves need and to nurture them by making sure those needs are met. In doing that we can show we value those parts of ourselves and take one more step toward putting ourselves first.

these parts are usually out-dated with limited coping tools from the past; they need your leadership and direction, with clear choices about When to Start on what; with or without clutter; just Start for 15 minutes on your top priority project, and clean up clutter as a reward for 5 minutes.

Thank you for offering the Un-Schedule pdf….I am presently listening to your audiobook via our local library and the Adobe Digital Reader is not available at this time. My husband suggested that the pdf may be offered on your website—and it is! I DID NOT PROCRASTINATE in seeking it out! Your book is throwing a lot of light on what I thought was just an annoying habit. Thank you!

    Greetings, Neil!

You may not remember me – I contacted you many years ago after discovering The Now Habit, and starting to incorporate its important lessons into my life. As a result, I was able to return to school and upgrade, and after 5 unsuccessful attempts, I succeeded in gaining admission to medical school. Your book was a core part of that success and I would not be where (or who) I am today had I not discovered it.

Can you tell me the original publication date of the book? I think it says 2007 or 2008 on Amazon, but I’m convinced it has to have been much earlier that that.

I have recommended your book to hundreds of people in the course of my work, many of them university students, and I continue to believe that this book represents the first (ever) identification of procrastination as primarily a sign of (and coping strategy for) anxiety, rather than an indication of “laziness.”

Recently, a patient I gave my (10th) copy of the book to told me, “As I started reading it, I started to cry, thinking, ‘That’s me. That’s so me.” I’ve watched people do amazing things – write their own books, complete PhDs, lose weight, achieve complex goals – all done 30 minutes at a time, and by asking themselves, “When’s the next time I can begin?”

I can’t express to you the degree to which this book changed my outlook and my life.

    With gratitude,
